Summary

Two hearts steeped in scandal 。 。 。

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton。 Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan。

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots。 When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both。 But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter 。 。 。

This is the first Lisa Kelypas book I'm reading and I loved it。 Each character had so much depth and none of them felt like they were here for the sake of making Amelia or Cam seems better。 This is the first Lisa Kelypas book I'm reading and I loved it。 Each character had so much depth and none of them felt like they were here for the sake of making Amelia or Cam seems better。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this series opener。 Cam and Amelia are such a perfect pair。 While they are certainly the stars of this story, it's undoubtedly a family saga。 I'm eager to read more。 I really enjoyed this series opener。 Cam and Amelia are such a perfect pair。 While they are certainly the stars of this story, it's undoubtedly a family saga。 I'm eager to read more。 。。。more

Lockdown 2021 read #4 I love Lisa Kleypas stories but this was not my favourite。 I was not a fan of the gypsy trope unfortunately。

The problem to her every problem is marring him。 And he is the one who wanted to live life of gypsy。 One night and boom-bam-chick, man changes, his priorities, his opinion everything。From getting under sky, he is building houses now! There is no plot, nothing!! She doesn’t think she could get married and he doesn’t like typical women and people have been racist towards him。 He is rich, she is not。 She has problems, he don’t。 She has no solution, he is the solution, she is assertive, he doesn’t listen, she is abused, he is abuser!!Filth under disguise of romance!! 。。。more

I'm not usually into over the top romance books。 However, this was a light read that seemed a good fit for lunch reading at work。 I enjoyed the characters of Cam and Amelia。 The plot that brought them together was entertaining。 My only issues lie in Cam "allowing" Amelia to do certain things。 It only happened a couple of times, and I tried to remember that this was a different time period。 Nonetheless, I found it annoying。 Still, I enjoyed it enough to give it three stars。 I'm not usually into over the top romance books。 However, this was a light read that seemed a good fit for lunch reading at work。 I enjoyed the characters of Cam and Amelia。 The plot that brought them together was entertaining。 My only issues lie in Cam "allowing" Amelia to do certain things。 It only happened a couple of times, and I tried to remember that this was a different time period。 Nonetheless, I found it annoying。 Still, I enjoyed it enough to give it three stars。 。。。more

Cam was perfection!! ❤️ Obsessed。

Some very dubious consent which took a lot of the joy out, but it was generally quite well written otherwise and I enjoyed it on the whole。But yeesh you could tell this was a bodice ripper。Also please could historical fiction not demonise the corset? Please?

Very difficult to put down for any length of time。 A strong start to the Hathaway series。。。 I'm quite looking forward to the rest of the stories。 Cam is a wonderful leading man。。 even if Amelia is a tad slow in figuring out what she wants。 It's nice to see the neighborhood filling out as well。 Westcliffe would be a fabulous neighbor! The Hathaways are an eccentric and wonderful brood and this is a wonderful historical romance。Looking forward to reading more from this series。

The story kept going places I wasn't expecting。 But I do wish the main character could've done away with her stubborness a little earlier。 The story kept going places I wasn't expecting。 But I do wish the main character could've done away with her stubborness a little earlier。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book, though you shouldn't be fooled by its status as "first in a series。" I originally began listening to this earlier this year。 By halfway in, I wasn't enjoying it much and it was clear I was missing a lot of backstory。 Turns out, this may be the first Hathaways book, but you really need to read Kleypas' Wallflowers series, first。So that's what I did。 And once that was read, I came back to this one and enjoyed it quite a lot。 Kleypas shows improvement in her writing (whi I really enjoyed this book, though you shouldn't be fooled by its status as "first in a series。" I originally began listening to this earlier this year。 By halfway in, I wasn't enjoying it much and it was clear I was missing a lot of backstory。 Turns out, this may be the first Hathaways book, but you really need to read Kleypas' Wallflowers series, first。So that's what I did。 And once that was read, I came back to this one and enjoyed it quite a lot。 Kleypas shows improvement in her writing (which was already good) in this first Hathaways book。 Rather than writing about the couple, and then the conflict, as in her Wallflowers books, she weaves the conflict together much more thoroughly with the romantic tension in this book。 She also adds a very slight element of mysticism that I really enjoyed。 I ended up doing a lot of listening to this one, more than usual in a day。 Kleypas had her tension levels down pat for the genre - just enough to keep me hooked, but not enough to break out of the "comfort reading" zone。Recommended for those who enjoy historical romances (and have already read the Wallflowers series, which is also very enjoyable。) 。。。more

What a fun read! Although I should more accurately describe it as a fun listen, since I prefer audiobooks。 Regardless, this is the first of five in what is known as The Hathaways。 This is the first Lisa Kleypas I have encountered so it was a kick to discover that she writes w humor, sincerity, humanity and generosity。 She tells this story w panache。 It was a total treat。

Confession – I heavily underrated Cam, and I was so wrong! Cam has been introduced as a side character in the Wallflowers series, and while I was quite interested in him, once the series ended I wasn’t as invested。But what a revelation this character has been in the Hathaway series! He is GOALS – lover goals, husband goals, friend goals, brother goals。。 and his presence all through this series has been “patriach goals”! This hazel eyed, long-haired badboy swept me off my feet! Situations forced her to take on bigger responsibilities, and she selflessly took them on without a single complaint。 She deserved nothing less than Cam, the pairing is absolutely perfect。Btw, if you’re new to regency romance/historical romances, I would definitely recommend this series, the storylines are not your typical “aristocratic society” ones。 Its hands down my favourite series by Lisa Kleypas for sure! 。。。more

I only made it to chapter 3。 The first night the hero meets the heroin, he forces a kiss on her in the street。 I didn't like that。 I only made it to chapter 3。 The first night the hero meets the heroin, he forces a kiss on her in the street。 I didn't like that。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book and stayed up all night reading it。 The heroine was really endearing and her whole family were very relatable in their trials and tribulations。 Was this book perfect? No。 The biggest issues for me were around consent。 Penetrative sex always got consent but the heroine said “NO” out loud to pretty much every other sexual act。 I can forgive it only because the book is from the 2000’s and is a historical, but I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone with a domestic violen I really enjoyed this book and stayed up all night reading it。 The heroine was really endearing and her whole family were very relatable in their trials and tribulations。 Was this book perfect? Just okay。 I really liked the main character but was not super invested in the relationship, and honestly a lot of the love interest's actions were questionable at best。 It didn't help that the sex scenes were all about him and very little interest in getting the heroine off too。 I liked the tinge of gothic horror that called back to old-school 1800s gothic novels, but otherwise this first installment left me really underwhelmed。 It felt。。。bland?
